Universalisation of Primary Education in India
This is a bit late but utterly welcomed move of the government. It should have come much earlier. Now the major challenge before the government is to improve the quality of public schools and to abridge the gap between private school educated and government school educated students.
The percentage allocation in budget for education should be increased as even the failed states like Zimbabwe happened to have greater literacy rates than that of India; and that too after India having such relaxed norms for a person to be counted as literate. The real situation will come to fore only when it will be made mandatory for a literate person to read, write and understand any of the official languages.
It will be a right move for NGOs to come forward and firstly make the poor families aware about free elementary education and it's future benefits.
